The Recession and Learning To Sing in 2023 (Surprising Similarities) By Anny Lieberman

My dear friends, Anny Lieberman here. Today, I want to talk about two seemingly unrelated topics: the recession and learning to sing. You might be thinking, "Anny, how can these two things possibly be related?" But bear with me, my friends. I promise you'll be surprised.

Let's start with the recession. We all know that the past few years have been tough. During Covid, many have gone inward, depressed. Now with a Recession and the end of Covid, many people have lost their jobs, businesses have closed down, and families have struggled to make ends meet. It's been a difficult time for all of us, and we've had to adapt and change in ways we never thought possible.

But here's the thing: just like a recession forces us to adapt and change, learning to sing does the same thing. Think about it. When you first start singing, you're probably not very good. Your voice cracks, you sing off-key, and you feel self-conscious. But with practice, you start to improve. You learn to control your breathing, hit the right notes, and project your voice. And suddenly, you find yourself able to sing a song you never thought possible.

The same is true of a recession. When times are tough, we have to adapt and change in order to survive. We might lose our jobs or have to take on extra work. We might have to cut back on expenses or find new ways to make money. And just like with singing, it's not always easy. We might struggle at first, but with practice, we start to get better. We learn new skills, find new opportunities, and become more resilient. And suddenly, we find ourselves able to weather a storm we never thought possible.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Anny, that's all well and good, but how can learning to sing actually help us during a recession?"

And here's where the surprising similarities come in.

When you learn to sing, you're not just learning a new skill. You're also learning how to work with others, how to handle criticism, and how to push through difficult times. You're learning discipline, focus, and persistence. And all of these things are incredibly valuable during a recession.

For example, let's say you're trying to find a new job during a recession. You might be facing rejection after rejection, and it can be discouraging. But if you've learned how to handle criticism from your singing lessons, you'll be better equipped to handle the job search process. You'll be able to take constructive feedback, learn from your mistakes, and keep pushing forward. And if you've learned how to stay disciplined and focused during your singing practice, you'll be better equipped to stay motivated during the job search process.

The same is true of starting a new business or finding ways to make money during a recession. If you've learned how to work with others during your singing lessons, you'll be better equipped to collaborate with others to find new opportunities. And if you've learned how to push through difficult times, you'll be better equipped to handle the challenges that come with starting a new business or finding new ways to make money.

So, my friends, the next time you're feeling discouraged during a recession, remember the lessons you've learned from singing. Remember that you've already developed skills that can help you adapt and change during difficult times. And remember that just like with singing, it's not always easy at first. But with practice, you can become more resilient, more disciplined, and more focused. And suddenly, you'll find yourself able to weather a storm you never thought possible.

In closing, I want to leave you with a quote from the great Maya Angelou: "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." The recession may bring feelings of defeat but you are not defined by it.

All the Best to you….

Anny
